
Terms & Conditions
1. Prize
- The Hunting Art Prize, now in its 30th year, is sponsored by the international oil services company Hunting PLC and is the most generous annual art prize in the U.S.
- There will be one winner and the winning entry will be awarded a cash prize of $50,000.
- The 2010 art prize is limited to paintings and drawings. No printmaking, photography, collage, assemblage, sculpture, relief, found object or computer-generated works will be accepted for this competition.
2. Specifications
- Participants must be 18 years of age (as of August 1, 2009) or older.
- Participants must be a legal resident of Texas.
- The competition is limited to one entry per artist. (Single canvas, no multiple pieces. All diptych and triptych works must be attached as a single unit.)
- The work must have been completed within three years prior to November 30, 2009.
- All participants must sign up using the electronic form at www.huntingartprize.com and upload a digital file representing their selected artwork. This file must be in JPEG format and should be no less than 1 MB and should not exceed 3 MB in size. Artwork must be uploaded at the time of signing up for the competition.
- Submissions for the prize must be original work executed by the artist whose name appears on the sign up form.
- All entries must be submitted no later than midnight Monday, November 30, 2009.
- 2-D Paintings must be created with traditional paint medium(s) such as oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastels or a combination thereof and should be painted on canvas, linen, panel, paper*, board or similar acceptable formats and must be secured on stretcher bars, with framing optional.
- Paper paintings must be framed with glazing (glass or Plexiglas); no loose, exposed or unprotected paper works will be accepted.
- 2-D Drawings must be created with traditional drawing medium(s) such as pencil, pen and ink and charcoal or a combination thereof and should be drawn on paper, panel or board and must be framed with glazing (glass or Plexiglas); no loose, exposed or unprotected paper works will be accepted.
- No printmaking, photography, collage, assemblage, sculpture, relief, found object, or computer-generated works will be accepted.
3. Conditions of Entry
- All entries must comply with the requirements as stated herein and Hunting PLC has the right to exclude entry from the competition at any time, for any reason.
- Submissions will be reviewed at any time to ensure compliance with contest rules.
- Any artwork that includes the use of bodily fluids, degradation of religion or government, and/or depiction of sexual acts or any other medium, presentation or topic objectionable to Hunting PLC will be automatically disqualified.
- Should an entry be disqualified at any time during the competition, the expenses are the responsibility of the artist.
- The decision of Hunting PLC on any and all matters relating to the competition will be final and binding.
- Hunting PLC, its contractors, subcontractors or the jurors will not enter into any correspondence regarding such decisions.
4. Jury
- From the digital images submitted, Jury I will select finalists who will be invited to submit their works for Jury II.
- For Jury II, chosen finalists will be officially notified via email, required to accept terms and conditions and will be asked to submit the artwork that represents their original digital file submission for judging and for exhibition at the 2010 Hunting Art Prize gala on May 1, 2010.
- Announcement of the prize winner will be made during the May 1 gala and exhibition.
- All finalists will have the opportunity to display and sell their submission.
- All juror decisions are final.
5. Finalists Submission
- Dimensions of the original artwork (including frame, if any) should not exceed 72 inches on any one side.
- All finalists’ original artwork must be suitably framed and have D-rings and wire and be able to be installed and hung as a single unit. (A stretched canvas does not require framing.)
- Original artwork must be labeled with the artist’s name, address, HAP entry # and title on the back. (You’ll receive an entry # when signing up on the Hunting Art Prize web site.)
- HAP, its contractors and subcontractors will exercise reasonable care with the original artwork submitted but will not be responsible for loss or damage whatsoever to any work while in its custody.
- Original artwork must be stable. No unstable, loose pieces or fragile mediums will be accepted.
- Artist agrees to bear all responsibility and cost associated with crating artwork according to the specifications outlined by Hunting for shipment to Houston.
- Artist also agrees to be responsible for the cost associated with picking up and returning their submission.
- All entries must be available for sale at the time of submission.
- Delivery and pickup of artwork must be within the days and times set by HAP—no exceptions. Failure to meet any deadline, for any reason, will cause disqualification of the entry.
- Finalists must allow their works to be reproduced by prints or electronic media and in any advertising and promotion during and after the jury processes and gala.
- All work submitted for consideration must be available for exhibition.
