The Hunting Art Prize Fact Sheet

What

In 2006, The Hunting Art Prize relocated to the U.S. after 25 years in Great Britain. Offering a $50,000 award to the winning artist, the competition moved to Houston because of the city’s diversity, international standing, vibrant creative community, and tradition of giving. Proceeds from the celebration will be donated to SIRE, Houston’s Therapeutic Equestrian Center. Visit www.huntingartprize.com for more information.

Why

The Hunting Art Prize was created to celebrate the culture of artists. Its goal is to honor an established artist who has made a significant contribution to Houston’s art community.

When

On April 29, Hunting PLC will announce the winner of its 2006 prize at an event held at The Corinthian. In addition to a live auction that will benefit SIRE, the party will also host an exhibition of the finalists’ art. Attendees can purchase the displayed works, and Hunting PLC will match a portion of the art sold for an additional donation to SIRE.

How

Artists were nominated to participate in this competition by respected members of Houston’s art community, and each nominee has been judged on a complete body of work. In the first step of a two-tiered jury process, the jurors narrowed the pool to a group of finalists. The second jury selected the winner based on studio visits and a review of the finalists’ work.
